Southport Air show 2010 takes place on Saturday 18th and 19th September on Southport beach just south of the pier and is the North Wests only major Air show. This year it is expected up to 150,000 members of the public including keen aviation enthusiasts will attend.

The Southport Air Show began in 1991 and has taken place each year since. It is the only airshow in the UK that takes place on the beach. The event is held in September because of the low tide. The flying programme includes both military and civilian aircraft, classic jets, helicopters, aerobatics by the world famous Red Arrows, warbirds and parachute displays.

Military aircraft at Southport Air Show has included, The Eurofighter Typoon, Hawk, Tornado, Vulcan Bomber, Apache AH1, Merlin, Lynx, Gazelle and Chinook Helicopters, Classic military aircraft has included the P51 Mustang, Spitfire, Hurricane fighters and the Lancaster Bomber.

You can usually expect to see microlight aircraft from the nearby West Lancashire Microlight school on the beach too. The Southport Model Aero Club usually put on a model aircraft display before the start of the main air display.

For those who wish to wander around the beach alongside the fantastic flying programme there is plenty of activity on the ground including the Air Show trade village, Aviation Marquee, simulators and entertainment activities for adults and children.
