Swanage Railway, a great day for the rail enthusiast

Swanage Railway has just announced its August Newsletter and there are plenty of events to keep the railway enthusiast happy during the summer.

Swanage Railway is running a peak train timetable until 30^th August during the summer season and from then it reverts to the mid-Green timetable. The peak service is a 40 minute steam train service from Swanage and Norden. The first train will leave at 09:50hrs.

There is also a diesel train service that runs between Swanage and Corfe Castle/Norden and the last train departs Swanage at 23:00hrs and Corfe Castle at 23:37hrs. If you would like a great day out for all the family Swanage Railway is the rail enthusiast experience day for you.

Train tickets can be bought on the train for the evening services. There is a flat fare of just £5 for evening travel after 18:15hrs.

The Wessex Belle Bistro

Want to travel on the Wessex Belle dining train? Swanage railway also offers the diesel-hauled Wessex Belle Bistro. This service normally runs on Friday evenings but in August extra running days have been added to this train service. Booking is not essential for this service although you are able to pre-book your train ticket and table.  Join or depart this train at Swanage, Herston, Harmans Cross or Corfe Castle.

Steam Gala

The annual Steam Gala weekend is 10-12 September with an intensive three days of steam train running. All the Swanage-based locomotives will be running and there will be at least one visiting locomotive.

Already confirmed is the LBSCR Terrier 662 Martello that is normally based at Bressingham. This will run on all three days of the Steam Gala.

And if that’s not enough there is a Vintage Transport Rally which takes place at Harman’s Cross.

Terrier Driver Experience

Bressingham-based Terrier 662 Martello will be available from Driver Experience courses after the Swanage Railway Steam Gala.

Two dates are available: 13th September and 17th September.

Swanage Regatta & Carnival

This family event starts 31^st July until 7^th September. During this time further events will take place across the town including a fireworks display. Extra evening train services will be in place between 31^st July and 7^th August. There will be events taking place across the town including spectacular fireworks displays.

To top this fantastic season The Red Arrows will display their brilliant flying and aerobatic skills as they take to the skies around 11:30hrs on Saturday 7^th August. Swanage Railway will be running additional morning trains from Norden to Swanage on this day.

This could be one of the British steam train family events of the year with train journeys, locomotives, diesel trains, driving experiences and The Red Arrows.
